ACT Background and Training
Intro and Advanced workshops (both 2-Days) in 2007 with Dr Russ Harris in Australia. In July 2008, a 2-Day workshop with John Forsyth on Anxiety; a 3-Day advanced workshop with Kelly Wilson in April 2009, and 2-Day workshop again with Kelly Wilson May 2011. I also have had extensive input regarding ACT from Mal Huxter (friend, supervisor, and fellow psychlogist) who introduced me to ACT in 2002. I have read, continually digesting, and use as resources with my clients, recent books: Mindfulness for Two; ACT for the treatment of PTSD and other Trauma Related Problems; ACT for Depression; ACT for Anxiety Disorders; ACT for Chronic Pain; The Worry Trap; Relational Frame Theory; Learning RFT; A Practical Guide to ACT; Learning ACT; ACT Verbatim; The Happiness Trap; Get out of Your Mind and Into Your Life; in addition to the ACT "bible" by Hayes, Strosahl, & Wilson. I have an extensive background in working to apply in therapy the ideas of the American pragmatist Psychologists - William James and George Herbert Mead. Also I have had a long experience of working in Solution-Focussed & Narrative Therapy frames, which as I see it are coming more from a Descriptive Contextualistic philosophy, compared to the Functional Contextualism of ACT.

Additional Information
Clinical Psychologist in Independent Practice in Lismore, NSW Australia. I provide supervision for other therapists wishing to incorporate, and/or more flexibly and fully apply ACT in their work. In working with clients my aim is to make the space, myself, skills, and knowledges totally available so each person can create their own set of "keys" to the living they have always wanted to do, yet felt unable or blocked somehow in moving into. My use of ACT is pragmatically informed by: 15 years of work in the mental health field; a broad and interconnected understanding of our totally human mind and its relationship with ourselves, our emotions, our bodies, our actions, our relationships, and our hearts, hopes and dreams; the willingness and capacity to remain fully present with myself and others in relating with intense experiences, in order to assist us move more fully into the types of living action that is at once meaningful, heartful, fulfilling, connected, rich, and vibrant.
